When I saw a workshop on soil chromatography from Hannah Fletcher and the Land Art Agency my interest was piqued. My father is a geologist and land researcher - I've grown up with talk of soil and peat. As part of my walking art practice I'm also interested in different ways of experiencing localities of landscape.

I asked my father for soil samples - any that he found interesting and had available - and of course he had some fascinating examples (carefully labelled).

Following on with the workshop I prepared the samples and filter paper...

The soil is finely ground ready for use

These detailed prints should further develop over the week as the silver is exposed to light. I can't wait to see how they turn out, and see what my father thinks of them too!
