'Voices of Richard III' for Cambridge Creative Encounters in collaboration with researcher Dr Jitka Štollová. Shown at the West Hub as part of Cambridge Festival 2024.

‘Voices of Richard III’ invited visitors to activate the artwork by reading the text aloud. They became a ‘voice’ of King Richard and could experience the emotional impact of words written by Renaissance authors between 1594 and 1624.

The 3 literature extracts were chosen by the collaborating researcher, Dr Jitka Štollová, for their re-framing of Richard’s last days and the complexity and impact of feeling contained within.

I was struck by the depth of symbolism and fervour which continues to surround King Richard III and his reign in the public consciousness. Each evocative text is paired with a symbolic 3D model - The crown’s inner workings and the burden of responsibility, the haunting of remorse staining the white York rose, the terror of death in battle through the bones of the skull.

The interactive artwork has been recorded as a video with voiceover of the full piece. Voiced by Henrik Burton.
