Walking around the starkly beautiful Jökulsárlón in Iceland - a lake fed by a glacier calving icebergs which slowly float out to sea - I couldn’t help but notice the birds. They rest on the icebergs, skreech chasing each other through the air. In the end, their bodies were so graphic on the black volcanic sands. They seemed like a form of calligraphy.
Inspired by John Cage's use of chance occurrences, this work has been created from double exposures of existing negatives from my archives, chosen and paired using random number generation.
